Design thinking in Build
Three steps towards user-friendly apps
Build is a comprehensive set of tools that helps you create better software applications by learning, prototyping and gathering inspiration and feedback. But even before you start prototyping, Build offers value by enabling design thinking. In this blogpost, we explain how this process works.
Put the user first
Flexso offers many custom-developed solutions. Through design thinking with Build, we help you to employ those solutions from a user-centric perspective. Design thinking allows you to understand your users’ needs through empathy and ideation. The process has three phases:
- understand what your users need
- explore possible scenarios and solutions through prototyping
- transform your prototype into a solution

In the first phase, you dig into the world of your user. Conduct research to develop insight into what your users do, say and feel. Observe what they think and what they want. This allows you to truly empathize with your users and their perspectives.
Then, combine your insights to define your users’ challenges. Organize your observations and draw parallels to find common pain points among your users, which highlight opportunities for innovation.
The next step is brainstorming. Creatively address the unmet needs of your users, giving yourself and your team total freedom to ideate. Remember that right now, quantity supersedes quality. Sketch out ideas, share them and try remixing them.
After this, you can start prototyping. This helps you understand which components of your idea work, and which need tweaking. Weigh the impact versus the feasibility of your ideas by gathering feedback from your team.
Time to put things to the test. Put your prototype in front of real customers and verify that it achieves your goals. Does the tool work, and do people enjoy using it?
When you are pleased with the result, you can finally implement your work: convert your prototype into an actual solution, and change the lives of your end users.
“We need more design doing.” – Donald Arthur Norman, Design Lab Director at the University of California
Throughout these three steps, Build encourages valuable design thinking processes while at the same time helping you shape real solutions. After all, design thinking does not magically free you from actually designing applications. Both are inseparable partners in the creation of user-friendly tools.
